Following the news that one our care staff at Pen-Y-Garth care home, Wrexham is expecting a baby, some of our residents are very much looking forward to meeting the new addition to Pen-Y-Garth. Some are even hoping to be asked to babysit!
The residents and staff at Pen-Y-Garth residential care home in Wrexham are all looking forward to Christmas and all its associated activities, not least decorating the Home and singing lots of carols! As usual there will be visits from the local church choir, the Brymbo School and the Wrexham Mayor amongst others.
Some residents will be going out to a local Special Needs School to have Christmas lunch with them and to watch their Nativity Play, whilst others will enjoy visiting local garden centres to see all the Christmas lights and decorations.
Shopping trips are also on the cards – no Christmas would be complete without them!
Congratulations to two of our care staff at Pen-Y-Garth EMI residential care home, Lesley and Bonnie, on achieving their QCF Health & Social Care Qualifications. Good luck also goes to the many other members of our care team who are currently engaged in undertaking their Diplomas in Care.
On a general note, Pen-Y-Garth was pleased to recently host the latest 3 day dementia training course in the home. This is just the latest in our regular programme of staff training which demonstrates the care home’s commitment to continuously updating our skill set in respect of all the facets in the provision of high quality residential care. Other regular training courses attended by staff in recent months include Fire Safety, Infection Control and Health & Safety and Adult Protection, as well as Reporting and Recording and Personal Centred Care.
Christmas is a magical time for all, not least at The Cedars where as usual we have an interesting and fun program of events and activities throughout December.
In addition to the decoration of the home for the festive period, on the 8th December we have our Christmas Party for residents, families and friends, including entertainment and first class buffet.
The following weekend the choir from St. Pauls Church in Sale will visit the home to perform “ Carols Round the Tree ”. We are sure that many residents and staff will join in!
‘Puss in Boots’ will later be brought to us by “ The Magic of Christmas ’, whilst Santa will be visiting with presents just before Christmas.
As the redecoration of some of our communal areas is now reaches its conclusion, we would like to thank to all the recent visitors to the home who have commented about how impressed they are with the results.
We are delighted to announce that following a recent routine unannounced inspection by the Care Quality Commission ( CQC ) – the body responsible for monitoring the standard of care in social and health care settings in England – The Cedars residential care home for the elderly in Bowdon near Altrincham in Trafford has been found to meet all 5 ‘Essential Standards of Quality and Safety’, the highest grading that any care home can reach, for the second year running.
The CQC’s inspector found that The Cedars care home meets all the required quality standards relating to respecting and involving people who use the service, the care and welfare of people who use the service, safeguarding people who use the service, the way that the service handles any concerns or complaints, and the way that the service meets the requirements in respect of its staff.
The CQC’s report is just the latest endorsement of the high quality of care and accommodation that The Cedars has provided to our residents in Trafford for almost 27 years.
